Recommendations for Windows laptops similar in appearance to the iBook G3 It seems like such a thing should exist with how the other computer makers love copying off of Apple, but I'm having a hard time finding any
>>
I haet windows 10+ This shit simply can't into just werking. It rapes my poor HDD continuously while refusing to do the most basic things. Gosh what a cancer.
>>
It's been ages and I can't remove a small piece of software. It just takes forever. Stupid shit
>>
Count down till I go insane Windows is retarded
>>
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=windows+10+100%25+disk+usage&ia=web Imagine this happening on linux
Your fortune: Better not tell you now
>>

>>

>>
>>950 linux doesn't run a fraction of software I am demanded to use Anyway show me your gentoo desktop Gentoo is for losers
>>
Nobody is out there copying vintage Apple. There have been people who retrofit iBook shells if that's your speed.
>>
>>951 >linux doesn't run a fraction of software I am demanded to use of course it doesnt but wine does
Your fortune: Average Luck
>>
>>951 there are multiple options for running software you need to that don't run on linux. 1. you can use an emulator like wine 2. you can use a virtual machine to effectively run windows inside linux whenever you need to and then have linux for everything else you want to do. 3. you can dual boot so that you can have linux and windows on your computer/laptop so you can use linux for yourself and use windows whenever it's needed. hope this was helpful!
>>
>>1059 Wine is not an emulator
>>
>>1060 sorry, I am a novice for this stuff. just trying to be helpful :P
>>
>>1061 i thought it was pretty basic knowledge ya know, considering "Wine is not an emulator" is literally what wine used to stood for wine is a compatibility layer that translates windows api calls into the relative calls for POSIX compliant OSes
>>
>>1062 wow, really? that's so cool! XD I've only been on mainly linux for like 6 months, so I have a lot to learn! if it's not an emulator, then what is wine btw?
>>
>>1064 Have you considered reading the message? from my message right above you > wine is a compatibility layer that translates windows api calls into the relative calls for POSIX compliant OSes
>>
>>1063 woah! thanks! I'm learning so much ^o^
>>
>>1065 sorry I was at the top writing my reply and didn't see till after I am new please be patient
>>
>>1063 Yeah emulators that don't emulate the instruction set but only the environment are called native emulators
>>
https://www.reddit.com/r/winehq/comments/wymuh6/its_really_impossible_to_run_softwares_like/ godspeed hikarins, i won't even bother replying to your drivel
>>
Dude wine is just a re-implementation of the win32 DLL and a loader stack for PE32+, windows programs that go out of their way to use syscalls directly are not supported, for that to be a thing wine would need to run as a kernel module and add overhead to linux programs making system calls >muh your drivel btw how is anything in that thread related to what i said about wine being an emulator? Like, it is
>>
wine is not an emulator and besides its usability is limited. the rest is drivel please stop trolling me
>>
then finally close your eyes and drink the WINE koolaid, my efforts are wasted on the likes of you
>>
your efforts have been futile since the very beginning. >i want to call wine an emulator do what you wish, but wine isn't an emulator, it's compatibility layer. it doesn't emulate anything
>>
>>1073 it emulates the feeling of when i get to play cute anime girl games but on loonix
>>
>>1074 why do you need girls when you already have the penguin?
>>
>>1074 Why would you use wine for that? Proton id inarguabley better for games.
>>
>>1076 proton in part uses wine, no?
>>
>>1077 Proton is a fork of Wine, but it has a few tweaks so it can run seamlessly with Steam. By my experience the best runners are Wine-GE/Proton-GE, if you haven't yet, I would recommend trying it out, although the creator is now working mostly on UMU Launcher, which is by their description on Github: > A unified launcher for Windows games on Linux. It is essentially a copy of the Steam Runtime Tools and Steam Linux Runtime that Valve uses for Proton, with some modifications made so that it can be used outside of Steam. By my understanding it let's you run proton without Steam, so now they don't need to have a Wine-GE and Proton-GE separated, and considering Wine-GE have not been update in more than a year now, and also the Bottles and Lutris creators are heavily involved in UMU, I can assume it's where most of the work is going to right now.
>>
>>1077 I don't believe anyone claimed it didn't
>>
Proton is gay and corporate, and I don't understand how to use it. With wine, it just werks. How do I even install your proton crap?
